December Daily - Studio Calico Challenge

It's been fun getting ideas from my pinterest board for December Daily inspiration, but, I'm having too much fun with the member challenges from Studio Calico. This week, the challenge was to use embossing powders on a layout. Well, I'm waist-high in December Daily layouts tonight. I'm up WAY WAY WAY past my bed time. But, when I discovered that there was this thing called a glue pen.... I knew that a whole new world would open up for me and my embossing powders!!!

When I saw this CUTE card on pinterest, I knew I wanted to recreate it with my own touch of course, with my embossing powders.

I cut a 6x8 piece of card stock down, and began to draw with the glue pen (Martha Stewart Brand). I did each word with different colors of powders, drew a border, and then used some rub-on stars from my December Daily kit for the finishing touch.

As you've noticed, with my December Daily pages, I like to make sure that the theme carries onto other cards used in the two-page spread, so, I created a 3x4 card with the same colors of embossing powders.

Our family ALWAYS plays games at Christmas and sometimes... it can get a little competitive. So, I knew the drama card from the December Daily kit would go perfect on this page, and I left two spots open for the naughty and nice players at the table. lol. Can't wait to slip some photos and write some GOOD stories on these pages!

December Daily 2013

If you follow me on facebook or instagram, you've seen the beginning of my December Daily album for 2013 already! Actually, you're probably sick of seeing the photos... lol! I've been working hard on getting the perfect photos... using different cameras, playing with lighting, etc. and here is what I learned about taking photos of your work:
  • 1 - DON'T use a cell phone. just don't.
  • 2 - Use natural light (indirect) and not any light that comes from a bulb. Which means, I had to have some pre-planning done, to have things ready to photograph when the light was just right. I've made note of that time of day...
  • 3 - Put pets (cats) and children away before taking photos.
  • 4 - TAKE MANY PHOTOS and at ALL angles.

Ok, now that I have that all ironed out, I'm going to share my most recent photos AGAIN. If you've already seen them, you can skip the rest of this post. Ha! Last year was my first attempt of doing December Daily and I didn't know about Studio Calico at that time. So, I decided to wing it and go my own route (other than an album or kit) and make a mini book from old Christmas Cards. It was fun AND I was contacted to be featured on a December Daily podcast by Melissa Shanhun! You can check out my interview here!

This year, I wanted to do more. my little mini album last year, while it's cute hanging on the tree and all, didn't give me the space to really cover all the fun things that happened in December. So, I took a deep breath and ordered the December Daily Kit from Studio Calico. I'm SO glad I did... it has proven to be worth it thus far and I'm excited to be a part of an AMAZING group of ladies who are also documenting December with this kit. And if you are wondering, using a kit IS NOT LIKE a paint-by-number project. I still have lots of room for my own creativity.

I'm happy to have the cover completed, my title page completed, and a good start on my "foundation pages" so far! Excited to dig in some more this weekend and over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I can't WAIT for December first! :D
